Three-time world title challenger Paulette “Heredera” Cuesta (18-5-1, 4 KO) defeated Susy Kandy Sandoval (10-23, 2 KO) by unanimous decision on Saturday night, October 25th, in the main event at Arena Tecate in Tijuana. The judges scored the eight-round bout 79-73, 78-74, and 77-75 in favor of Cuesta.
This matchup served as a rematch of their April 2021 meeting, which Cuesta also won on points. From the opening bell to the final round, Cuesta controlled the action. She scored the harder, more effective punches and kept Sandoval on the defensive for long stretches. Sandoval had moments of success with aggressive counterpunching, particularly when Cuesta eased off the pace. The rounds Sandoval won were largely those in which Cuesta elected to box more cautiously.
Observers noted that Cuesta appeared more aggressive than in past performances, pressing forward behind a consistent jab and working combinations that set the tone early. There were no knockdowns or point deductions during the contest.
The event was promoted by Baja Boxing and broadcast live on YouTube.com/BajaBoxing, drawing a strong turnout with a noticeable majority supporting the hometown fighter.
“We are satisfied with the result and with the approach Paulette brought into this fight,” said Felipe Leon, Cuesta’s manager and representative of Leon Sports Group. “She showed a willingness to assert herself and take control of the action. We will review options for her next fight as we work toward securing another major opportunity.”
The win keeps Cuesta active in the bantamweight division as she looks to move closer to another world title opportunity. Sandoval, who has been a frequent opponent for rising talent in the region, completed all eight rounds and remained competitive until the final bell.
